Packaging QR codesA code on the box that keeps up after it ships.

Put the manual, the setup video, warranty registration and the reorder page behind one printed code. Packaging is printed months before it’s opened; with a dynamic code you can change where it points without touching the boxes already in stock.

Why people scan a box

Five moments, five jobs for the code

People reach for the code when they need something from the product. Decide which moment matters most for yours, then pick the QR type that opens it.

Need several of these behind one code? A List of links QR code opens a mobile page with a button for each: manual, video, warranty and reorder.

Printed once. Edited for as long as it sells.

A dynamic code prints a short QR Rapid link. The box never changes; what the link opens does. You replace the file or the address in your dashboard and every carton already made follows.

A static code is fixed to what you typed when you made it. That’s fine for a page you’ll never move, but a printed run can’t be patched later.

  2. AugustManual revisedReplace the PDF with v1.1. Boxes in the warehouse open v1.1.
  3. NovemberNew filter pagePoint the refill label’s code at the new reorder page.
  4. Next MarchStill on shelvesSame boxes and printed code; what the code opens is current.

A dynamic code works while it’s active in your QR Rapid account; if it’s deactivated (for example when a plan ends), scans show an inactive-code page until you reactivate it.

Reorder

A flattened carton dieline with magenta fold lines: a code on the side panel (A), a spot inside the lid (B), plus an insert card (C) and a bottle label (D).
A

Side or back panel

A flat panel is the safest place. Keep the code clear of folds, glue flaps and the edge where the board is creased.

B

Inside the lid

Seen at the exact moment of unboxing. Good for setup, less good for reorders once the box is in the recycling.

C

Insert or instruction card

Printed on paper, so contrast is easier than on brown board. Gets kept in a drawer with the manual.

D

Bottle, jar or refill label

Stays with the product until it runs out, which makes it the reorder spot. On a curve, keep the code away from the tightest part of the bend.

Before the run goes to print

  • Dark ink on brown kraft can lose contrast. Print the code on a white or light patch.
  • Keep metallic foil, embossing and heavy gloss varnish off the code itself.
  • Leave clear space around the code; don’t let a fold or barcode crowd it.
  • Put a few words beside it so people know why to scan: “Setup video”, “Reorder filters”.
  • Send the designer the SVG and approve a printed proof on the real stock before the run.

Working with a designer? QR codes for designers covers styling the code and exporting SVG for artwork files.

A whole product range

One code per product, kept in one folder

If each product needs its own manual, or you want to see which product’s code gets scanned, give each its own dynamic code. Your plan sets how many dynamic codes you can create.

  1. 1

Create the first dynamic code for one product.

  2. 2

Duplicate it for each product or variant, then change each destination.

  3. 3

Rename each copy after where it’s printed, and move them into one folder.

  4. 4

Filter Statistics by folder for the range, or by one code for one product.

Packaging QR code questions

Can I change where a packaging QR code goes after the boxes are printed?

Yes, if it’s a dynamic code. The box carries a short QR Rapid link; you change the destination in your dashboard and the printed code opens the new page or file. A static code can’t be changed once it’s printed.

Which QR type should I put on a box?

PDF for a manual or setup guide you’ll revise, Video for a setup or care clip, and URL for a warranty form, reorder page or support page on your own site. A List of links code fits a single code that should offer several of these.

Is a QR Rapid code a GS1 Digital Link, a Digital Product Passport or an anti-counterfeit code?

No. QR Rapid creates QR codes that open a web page, file or contact details. It doesn’t produce GS1 barcodes, product passports, serialised codes or authentication, and a QR Rapid code doesn’t replace the retail barcode scanned at checkout.

Should every product have its own QR code?

If you want each product to open its own manual, or to see which product’s code gets scanned, yes. Create one dynamic code, duplicate it for each product, change each destination and keep them in one folder. Statistics can be filtered by a single code or by folder. Your plan sets how many dynamic codes you can create.

What file should I send to the packaging designer?

SVG, which stays sharp at any size on a dieline. PNG, JPEG and PDF are also available. Ask for a printed proof on the real board or label stock and scan it before the full run.

What happens to the codes on packaging if my plan ends?

A dynamic code works while it’s active in your QR Rapid account; if it’s deactivated (for example when a plan ends), scans show an inactive-code page until you reactivate it.

What a QR Rapid packaging code isn’t

  • It doesn’t replace the retail barcode scanned at checkout, and it isn’t a GS1 Digital Link code.
  • It isn’t a Digital Product Passport or a compliance label.
  • It doesn’t authenticate products or give each unit a serial code: every box with the same code opens the same page.
